Muse event ( Managing you money)

I attended a muse workshop titled, “Manage your Money”. This workshop was very informative and relevant to my current situation. I happen to have a big problem with spending money and not being able to save. The workshop explained how most student has the same problem as me. The speaker gave many tips and strategies on ways to manage your money efficiently. They stressed the importance of saving and buying things that are needed and not just at your leisure. Thinking about the future is the key to managing your money. Another major point that was discussed included when and when not using cash or credit. They explained how using cash for small items is better than using credit for small items. Credit is only appropriate to use when you are purchasing big items such as furniture, bills, and expensive household appliances. Having good credit is very important in today’s society. Good credit can have an impact in purchasing a car, and a house. Bad credit can deprive one of many things that our essential in life. My dad has bad credit and he complains that his credit deprives him from purchasing more property. I learned a lot from this muse workshop and it helped me with managing my money.

Non-Muse event (basketball game)

As a non-muse event, I attended a San Jose State Spartan men’s basketball home game against Saint Mary’s private college. This was the first college basketball game I have ever attended and it was a very good experience. In high school, I played basketball for three years and to see guys my age playing at the college level, made me feel like I should be playing as well. I have a lot of friends on the men’s basketball team so it was nice to support them and watch them play for the first time. Prior to the game, the was a lot of talk on who was the best players and how good the team was this year and it was good to experience this first-hand. It was a very good game and it seemed like both teams were playing with great intensity. In the first half, we were up by about 18 points but Saint Marys seemed to catch up. We ended up losing that game by 7, which was pretty devastating but I still enjoyed watching the guys play. The way the team played made me believe that they had a chance to go far. They played with a lot of heart and with a lot of teamwork, as if they had been together for a long time.

Muse Workshop

On December 2nd, 2009, I attended a muse workshop in which gave test taking strategies. This workshop was very relevant at this time period since I have many finals coming up in the next couple of weeks. The speakers were two students that were upper-class men, who had many experience with taking test in college. Being a freshman at SJSU, I am not used to taking finals at the college level. In high school, final tests were always done the same way and were usually done in the same week or day, depending on what period the class was. College finals are sometimes a couple weeks apart which gives you a lot more time to prepare, but the material is a lot harder than high school material. This semester I am taking Calculus 1, Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll, LLD 2, Engineering 8, and Chemistry 10 and I have finals for all of these courses. The muse workshop gave tips and strategies for all sorts of tests; from essay tests to multiple tests. It also gave tips on what should be done while taking a test, before taking a test, and after taking a test. Before taking a test, you should arrive early, pay attention to verbal directions, and evaluate the importance of each section. While taking a test, you should look over the test, budget your time, read the directions, answer the easiest questions first, first answer the multiple choice questions, and look at all the answers carefully. I have heard most of these tips before but it was good to hear them again going into finals.
