Drugs in today’s society are very common. From parties to social gathering, young adults have a variety of reasons why they choose to use drugs and why they prefer using it. As a freshmen in college is vigorous and is found in almost every aspect of college life. Coming into college, you are trying to find yourself and meet new people and Experience College to the absolute fullest. Due to this desire to have a remarkable college experience, some students turn to drugs.

I grew up in a very strict household where drugs and drinking were frowned upon when underage. My parents are from Nigeria, and in Nigerian culture, children are supposed to be pure and clean and carry themselves with respect. In Nigeria, where almost everyone has the same values, it is very different to growing up in America where people have a variety of values. Growing up, I chose to not use drugs but tried it before. My experience served as a burden for me because my first time trying a drug could have enabled me to fail a drug test a job required for its new employers. Luckily I passed, but since then, drugs have been at the back of my mind.

Many of my friends tend to use drugs. From weed to a variety of pills, they desire the high feelings and tend to get addicted to the feelings also. Within my current circle, marijuana is acceptable and serves as a social activity, which enables everyone to have a good time. Very few of my friends use pills, but when they do, they use a great magnitude on vikadin and codeine syrup. I choose not to use drugs, because I see how it changes people and I cant see myself using them as well. I have seen loved ones suffer from great consequences due to the consumption of drugs and still, after suffering from these consequences, they continue to use these substances that got them in trouble.

Although most of my friends use drugs, they are very cautious and particular about which drugs they use. I have no friends that use cocaine or heroin or any of the very dangerous drugs. We all consider people who use those drugs as “knocks”. Using these drugs are crossing a boundary and usually results in failure and addiction. I wouldn’t even allow any of my friends to use any of these drugs.

In my opinion, I think some drugs are acceptable to use. Drugs such as marijuana, I believe are not harmful, but I also feel that it isn’t for me. In college, vie noticed that a lot of people who you never expected to use drugs, use drugs. The free environment and the ability to take care of yourself affects freshmen and they tend to want to experience different ways of having a good time.
